There is so much love right here that it is hard to contain. She mimics her mother which makes me laugh. If Rogue has something to tell me, Remi is sure to make sure I heard her. She loves to be held and is the best kisser.. she is an absolute delight. She has grown so much! She loves the GoDog dinosaurs and dragons because they crinkle and squeak but also make a comfortable pillow after a hard play session. She is taking a mid-afternoon nap in her crate and is sleeping through the night too.

Sweet Remi is finally a little dog!. Every morning I open her crate and she runs, high stepping it with her front paws out. Rogue is once again sleeping with her boy and able to sleep away from Remi for the night but first thing in the morning she rushes to Remi's crate. Rogue now only nurses a few times a day. Remi is spending most of her day either toddling around the house following me or playing with Toast's puppies who are just a few weeks older than her. She is figuring out the slide, wobble board and toys. She has really started to change and blossom this week. I love watching them grow.

The sweet baby is four weeks old and becoming independent. She has been spending a few hours a day with Toast's puppies (Rogue lays nearby to supervise) so that she can learn how to interact with other puppies. She does very well with them and will even nap cuddled up next to Toasts puppies. Rogue's BFF is our maine coon who has also taken to socializing the baby. They eat together and then clean each other's faces. It is sweet to watch. She started trying to eat Rogues food last week so we started giving her softened PawTree Turkey & Sweet food and she loves it!

The puppy is up and on the move! If she isn't sleeping she is going someplace and Rogue is often two steps behind. We are keeping the puppy on surfaces with traction (puppy pads) vs allowing it to walk on tile and hardwoods at this time to protect her joints as they are maturing. Because there is only one puppy she also has access to unlimited milk, we are starting to reduce access to Rogue's milk by having her wear a shirt a few hours every day, we don't want the puppy to get to heavy or grow faster than she should. Overall she is doing very well and hitting key mile markers. She has started using the potty station which helps keep their bedding clean. This is a big help and will help her potty train faster as she transitions to her home.

The puppy's eyes are just starting to open but it still does not have full vision and won't even at 8 weeks of age. The puppy can tell by smell if I or someone else has walked into the room. The puppy is moving on its own and actually standing up and taking a few steps. This week the puppy has continued to be handled daily and received Bio-Senor feedback which helps them build healthy immune systems, improved cardiovascular performance, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease. The U.S. Military in their canine program developed a method that still serves as a guide to what works. In an effort to improve the performance of dogs used for military purposes, a program called "Bio Sensor" was developed. Later, it became known to the public as the "Super Dog" Program. Based on years of research, the military learned that early neurological stimulation exercises could have important and lasting effects. Their studies confirmed that there are specific time periods early in life when neurological stimulation has optimum results. The first period involves a window of time that begins on the third day of life and lasts until the sixteenth day. It is believed that because this interval of time is a period of rapid neurological growth and development, and therefore is of great importance to the individual. The "Bio Sensor" program was also concerned with early neurological stimulation in order to give the dog a superior advantage. Its development utilized six exercises, which were designed to stimulate the neurological system. Each workout involved handling puppies once each day. The workouts required handling them one at a time while performing a series of five exercises. Listed in nor order of preference the handler starts with one put and stimulates it using each of the five exercises. The handler completes the series from beginning to end before starting with the next pup. The handling of each pup once per day involves the following exercises:

1. Tactile stimulation - Holding the pup in one hand, the handler gently stimulates (tickles) the pup between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip. It is not necessary to see that the pup is feeling the tickle. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds.

2. Head held erect - Using both hands, the pup is held perpendicular to the ground, (straight up), so that its head is directly above its tail. This is an upwards position. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds

3. Head pointed down - Holding the pup firmly with both hands the head is reversed and is pointed downward so that it is pointing towards the ground. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds

4. Supine position - Hold the pup so that its back is resting in the palm of both hands with its muzzle facing the ceiling. The pup while on its back is allowed to sleep struggle. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.

5. Thermal stimulation - Use a damp towel that has been cooled in a refrigerator for at least five minutes. Place the pup on the towel, feet down. Do not restrain it from moving. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.

I am a week old and are doing great. Did you know that dogs are an altricial species they are born before they are fully developed in contrast to precocial species who can stand and walk around within hours of birth?

Apart from not being able to stand puppies are not yet fully developed. Their eyes and ears are sealed shut to protect them while they continue to develop. It will take a puppy months of development to achieve what other mammals can do shortly after birth.

There is a huge social aspect to this. Precocial species are able to wander off and get lost moments after birth. It is for their protection that they imprint and bond with their mother and distrust and fear everything else. In contrast, altricial species cannot wander off for weeks or even months after birth so they will always be under the protection of their mother. They have a long and flexible social period. It is because of this that humans and dogs are able to bond so closely.
