Follow the journey to watch Candy Crush & Fizz's puppies to see how these early experiences shape confident, curious puppies

Week 5 | February 7th
This week we have posted a photo here but also a fun video of the puppies on Facebook! Puppies have started eating Pawtree Turkey & Sweet Potato food (select large breed to get the turkey vs chicken) softened.
While many breeders are anxious to remove the momma from puppies at this stage and return them to their guardians, we know how critical it is to allow our puppies to have access to their mother. This is a crucial developmental stage where puppies start to learn play behaviors like bite inhibition. Puppies who are removed from their litter and mother too early often do not learn this skill. The puppies have mastered their two step slide and are working on the wobble board and tunnel. Sensory landscape helps the puppies build confidence. Climbing, sliding down uneven surfaces, standing on the wobble board and playing in the dark tunnels are all things that help produce mentally and physically stable puppies. They have walked on six different surfaces- carpet, hardwood, tile, snow for just a quick minute, slide, wobble board! Our goal at this age is seven but everything is covered in snow. As it warms in the coming week we will continue to venture out to new spots. The puppies enjoy exploring and Candy Crush is always by their side to encourage them to explore.  She is a good momma

Week 4 | January 30th
Four weeks marks a new genesis in puppyhood. Candy Crush’s puppies are still happily nursing but have just become interested in solids. We feed Turkey & Sweet Potato PawTree diet. We continue to keep mom with the litter as her presence is key for healthy social development, especially learning boundaries and bite control through play.

They’re gaining coordination and confidence every day. This week we have introduced:

  • the two-step slide
  • the wobble board and tunnel
  • They’re beginning to explore and interact with toys of various textures and sounds

Our sensory and motor skill development continues to focus on preparing well-rounded, confident puppies.

Week 3 | January 24th
Week three is when puppies start exploring the world around them, testing new textures, sounds, and spaces for the very first time
I enjoy watching puppies grow and develop. It is interesting to see how each litter reaches the same milestones at about the same time. These developmental stages are important, which is why we focus on placing puppies in age-appropriate environments at the right time. If changes happen too early, puppies can become stressed. If changes happen too late, a critical window for learning and imprinting can be missed.
It is easy for me to recognize puppies that were raised without proper handling and socialization. Puppies raised in isolation, without a potty station or regular human interaction, often show delays in confidence and adaptability.
This week, Candy Crush’s puppies were moved into a larger pen that includes a potty station and toys. Although they are not actively playing yet, they are beginning to explore. They notice the different textures under their feet and the sounds the toys make when they touch them. These early experiences help them become more comfortable with new objects and environments and support healthy emotional development.

Week 2 | January 17th At two weeks old, Australian Labradoodle puppies open their eyes and ears.
At two weeks old, Australian Labradoodle puppies begin to become aware of the world around them. Their eyes slowly start to open, and their ears begin to respond to sound. They notice light, movement, and touch for the first time. These early experiences are not just cute moments. They are important steps in helping the puppies feel safe and secure. Gentle sounds and calm handling teach them that people are a source of comfort and care.
Although their eyes are opening, their vision is still very limited and will not be fully developed even by eight weeks of age. The puppies rely heavily on their sense of smell and can already tell when I or someone else has entered the room. They are starting to move on their own, stand up, and take a few small steps.
This week, the puppies continued to be handled daily and received Bio Sensor stimulation. This early neurological stimulation is used to support healthy immune systems, better cardiovascular performance, stronger adrenal glands, increased tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease.
The Bio Sensor method was developed by the U.S. Military as part of their canine program. It was originally created to improve the performance of dogs used for military work and later became known publicly as the “Super Dog” Program. Years of research showed that early neurological stimulation can have long-lasting effects when done during specific developmental windows. The most important period begins on the third day of life and continues through the sixteenth day. This time is critical because the nervous system is growing and developing very rapidly.
The program uses a series of simple exercises designed to stimulate the neurological system. Each puppy is handled once per day and worked with individually. The handler completes all five exercises with one puppy before moving on to the next. Each exercise lasts three to five seconds.
The five Bio Sensor exercises are:
Tactile stimulation
The puppy is held in one hand. A cotton swab is used to gently tickle between the toes on one foot for three to five seconds.
Head held erect
Using both hands, the puppy is held straight up so the head is directly above the tail. This position is held for three to five seconds.
Head pointed down
The puppy is held securely and gently turned so the head points downward toward the ground. This position is held for three to five seconds.
Supine position
The puppy is held on its back with its muzzle facing upward. The puppy is allowed to squirm or resist slightly. This position is held for three to five seconds.
Thermal stimulation
A damp towel that has been cooled in the refrigerator for at least five minutes is placed on the floor. The puppy is set on the towel with its feet down and is not restrained. This lasts for three to five seconds.

These brief daily exercises help support healthy development during a critical early stage of life and are one of the many ways the puppies are gently prepared for the world ahead.

Week 1 | January 10th Puppies are an altricial species — and that one fact explains why they have become mans' best friend
Did you know that dogs are an altricial species they are born before they are fully developed in contrast to precocial species who can stand and walk around within hours of birth?
Apart from not being able to stand puppies are not yet fully developed. Their eyes and ears are sealed shut to protect them while they continue to develop. It will take a puppy months of development to achieve what other mammals can do shortly after birth.
There is a huge social aspect to this. Precocial species are able to wander off and get lost moments after birth. It is for their protection that they imprint and bond with their mother and distrust and fear everything else. In contrast, altricial species cannot wander off for weeks or even months after birth so they will always be under the protection of their mother. They have a long and flexible social period. It is because of this that humans and dogs are able to bond so closely.
